When my oldest son was little, he loved anything mechanical. He loved tinkering with toys that had doors, hinges and levers. But there was something about a gas station carwash that would freak him out. So bad that if he was with us and we needed to get a wash, I would have to let him and his mom out of the car and they would wait outside while I ran the car through.
It took him several years before he realized that the water, brushes and all the other scary parts couldn't hurt him. Once he got over it...getting a car wash was one of his favorite things to do.
To this day every time I get a carwash, I think of him.
