Ever since I was a little boy, I've always been fascinated with airplanes. I love to fly. I hate to drive. Disclaimer: I do love an occasional cross country road trip with a friend, wife or kids.
Aside from those special occasions, I fly. Over the years I've developed my own routine. TSA Pre-Check, CLEAR, isle seats, etc. My family thinks it's funny, but I take it seriously (probably too seriously). But once I get in my seat, it's pure joy. There's something about being hurled through the air in a tin tube ate 600 MPH.
Early in my life/career I had the privilege of flying all over the country in a corporate jet. On top of the ease of travel, I got to know the pilots well and as a result gained a considerable knowledge of how planes work (in general)...while there's no comparison flying private vs commercial, my pilot friends words of wisdom have remained with me so I have a pretty keen since of what's going on, when and how...the best description of in-flight turbulence is compared to a pebble floating down a stream...it may not be accurate, but the thought comes in handy when it happens.
Next to actually flying, I love to watch planes fly, take off and land. When I was five or six, my grandparents used to take me to this spot at the end of the runway in Denver and we would watch planes land...at that age, it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. To this day, when I hear a plane, I immediately look up regardless how high it is.
One of my favorite places in the world is the park across the street from the In & Out near LAX (Los Angeles Airport). It's in the direct landing path to LAX. Having the privilege to live near there, it's a place I frequent often. Many times, when I land at LAX before going home I stop off, grab a burger and sit in the park and watch planes land.
Here are some images I captured over time. I know it's a mix between B&W & color, you can let me know which style you prefer....it never gets old.
